The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a probe against a former Inspector General (IG) and a serving Commandant of the CRPF on charges of violating procurement rules and seeking bribes.

During its investigation, the CBI will also look into allegation of a nexus between officials of India’s largest central armed police force and private contractors and suppliers.

The CRPF told the CBI that in its preliminary enquiry charges of misconduct, corruption/illegal gratification and misuse of official position have prima facie been established. The procurement of riot control helmets and unauthorised uniforms has come under the scanner and there is a suspicion that other items like batteries, and ACs might have been distributed to recruits at a higher rate.
