Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday India’s resolve to fight the biggest of challenges faced by it has been equally strong as he addressed the nation during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat even as the country is battling the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

"My dear countrymen, however big the challenge is, India's resolve to face it has always been greater. The collective strength of the country and our spirit of service have brought India out of all storms,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister also praised people of the states affected by the two cyclones, which hit the country in a month, and said they showed courage, patience and discipline. “I respectfully and wholeheartedly respect all the citizens,” he said on Mann Ki Baat.

“Those who came forward and took part in the relief and rescue work, any amount appreciation of all these people will be less. I salute them all. I express my deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. We all stand steadfastly with those who have suffered losses,” PM Modi said.

Cyclone Yaas hit Odisha and West Bengal on Wednesday, killing at least five people and leaving a trail of destruction. Before that, Cyclone Tauktae in the Arabian Sea affected almost all states on the country's western coast earlier this month.

The 77th episode of the radio programme also coincides with seven years of the Modi government in the Centre.

The Prime Minister in the last episode of Mann Ki Baat praised healthcare workers and hospitals for using technology for offering consultations to the patients amid the coronavirus pandemic. PM Modi also appealed to people not to fall prey to rumours about vaccination and urged every person to get inoculated against the disease.

Mann Ki Baat is the Prime Minister's monthly radio address to the nation and is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month.
