The incident came to light after the neighbours complained to the police about a stench emanating from the house. Post mortem revealed that the software engineer committed suicide on July 1, they said.

Upon receiving the neighbours’ complaint, the police broke open the door and found the woman hanging, Mysuru police commisioner A Subrahmanyeswara Rao said.

The woman, a resident of Kalaburagi, had joined Infosys as a trainee three months ago, Rao added.

The police are investigating the reason behind her taking the extreme step. Although, the neighbours said the woman was in depression over some issue, Rao said.

“We are saddened by the loss of our employee in Mysore. We are working with the local authorities as they investigate the matter and will continue to provide our co-operation and support,” Infosys said in a statement.

The software company also said it would provide all necessary support to the family of the woman in this time of grief.
