Residents claim that Mansoor Ahmed Lone, 22, died in the custody of security forces. Lone had gone missing on Tuesday when security forces allegedly raided his village. “To prevent the Eid prayers, the security forces raided our locality on Tuesday after which he (Lone) went missing,” a local said.

Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said imposition of curfew on Eid-ul Adha on Tuesday was a “very unfortunate” decision which it was “compelled” to take to save the lives since the separatists had given a call for a march to the UN office.

“We were compelled to impose curfew. It doesn’t do any good to the image of any government to take such a step but it is the responsibility of the government to ensure law and order,” said PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar

Normal life in the Valley remained affected for the 68th day due to curfew and separatist sponsored strike since July 9, following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani.
