“Flight 9W523 with 142 guests and 7 crew members from Riyadh to Mumbai aborted take-off and departed the runway at Riyadh Airport on August 3. All our guests and crew have been evacuated safely with no reported injuries,” Jet Airways said in a tweet.

Although the incident is being investigated, sources said the acceleration gained during the take-off could have steered the aircraft beyond the runway even as the pilot implemented all the required procedures to abort the operation.

“The event involving flight 9W523 is being investigated by local regulatory authorities, and our teams are extending full cooperation. At Jet Airways, the safety of our guests and crew is of paramount importance,” the airline said in another tweet.

The passengers and crew members were accommodated inside the terminal building of Riyadh Airport after the incident. Further details are awaited.
