The incident took place in Patra village in Gajner on Monday when the man identified as Baljeet (30) refused to run away with the woman, as had been planned by both of them earlier, said Pushpanjali, superintendent of police, Kanpur (rural).
The woman, a mother of three, was involved in a relationship with her neighbour Baljeet for the past few years. Enraged by the betrayal, she started beating him. Her husband, who was not aware of the affair, too witnessed the scene.
Police brought them to the police station and on further enquiry, the woman said that Baljeet was involved in a physical relationship with her on false pretext of marriage and both had planned to run away.
However, when Baljeet told police that he had never agreed to run away, the woman attacked him again.
SP Pushpanjali said the woman has not registered any complaint of rape and a Circle Officer has been engaged to probe the case. Action will be taken only if she registers a FIR against Baljeet, she said.
