The government has announced that the last day to link the Permanent Account Number (PAN) card with the Aadhaar number is June 30, 2021. Failing to link the two would result in the PAN card becoming “inoperative” and a penalty of 1,000 would also be levied.

Earlier, the government had set the deadline as March 31 to link the two documents after extending it multiple times. However, the date was again extended to June 30 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government said.

In its order regarding the extension of the last date, the government said on March 31, “Representations have been received from taxpayers that the last date for intimating the Aadhaar number may further be extended in the wake of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. Keeping in view the difficulties faced by the taxpayers, the Central Government has issued notification today extending the last date for the intimation of Aadhaar number and linking thereof with PAN to 30th June, 2021”.
