The man, identified as Kapil Shastri, is mentally disturbed and had hoisted the flag on Sunday. On information by locals, he was detained and the flag was seized, police said.

A case against Shastri was registered under section 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, residence and 295 (insult the religion of any class) of IPC.

“Primary probe reveals that the accused is not mentally fit and said that he picked up the flag few years ago from a slum area and brought to his house.”

“His grandfather was a freedom fighter,” Anil Jaimini, SHO of the Mansarover police station, said on Monday.

He was detained and released.

A medical examination of the accused will be conducted on Tuesday, he added.
