A 38-year-old man was allegedly killed by half-a-dozen people in front of his wife after the motorcycle he was riding collided with another two-wheeler in Shahajahanpur on Thursday, police said.

A murder case has been registered against six persons.

Confirming the incident, superintendent of police (SP) of Shahajahanpur S Channappa said, “The incident occurred in Gada village, under Niogohi police station area, at around noon. Mahesh Kumar of Kunai area was killed in the incident. His wife Satrupa and another person are said to be injured and have been admitted to district hospital.”

According to locals, Mahesh and his wife were returning home on their motorcycle when it collided with another two-wheeler in Gada village. “Kapil Yadav, the rider on the other motorcycle and a resident of the same village, fell down from the bike, which made him angry. He called his relatives who, along with other villagers, reached the spot and allegedly beat up Mahesh brutally,” Channappa said.

“The assailants punched Mahesh in his abdomen and some of them also hit him with wooden sticks,” Satrupa said in her complaint to police.

“The mob kept on hitting Mahesh till he stopped moving. They then turned to Satrupa, who was pleading with them to spare the life of her husband, and started beating her,” read the first information report (FIR).

In the meantime, one passerby informed police about the incident and a vehicle reached the place. “Some of the attackers moved Mahesh to a room before the police team reached the village but the police found him and took him to a nearby hospital,” said the SP.

At the hospital, doctors declared Mahesh as “brought dead” and the body was sent for post-mortem examination, police said.

Nitin Tiwari, the doctor who was on duty at the hospital when Mahesh was brought in, said, “The body had visible injury marks all over it. There was blood in the nose and mouth that suggested internal injury. The post-mortem examination will reveal more details.”

Police have registered the FIR against Kapil Yadav, his brothers Sonu Yadav and Dinesh Yadav along with three others for murder.

A team has been constituted to investigate the matter and they will submit a report in seven days, said the SP.
