Militants fire at police station in Kashmir’s Kulgam district

Officials said that the policemen guarding the police station Yaripora retaliated forcing the militants to retreat.
“Some gunmen opened fire on the Yaripora police station. Our men were also alert and they retaliated effectively. The exchange of fire continued for a minute or so,” said SP Kulgam Shridhar Patel.
He said no policeman was hurt in the incident.
Senior police officials have rushed to the spot as a manhunt has been launched to track the attackers. “We don’t know whether the attackers have fled or are somewhere in the area. We are conducting searches,” he said.
The attack comes two days after police said that militants armed with grenades and rifles attacked an army camp in north Kashmir Baramulla district. One BSF personnel had been killed in the incident.
Militants had also attacked a major army base in Baramulla’s Uri sector near Line of Control on September 18 killing 19 soldiers and ratcheting up tensions between India and Pakistan.
