Murder accused shot dead in Panipat

The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Sheokand, a property adviser in Panipat. He was accused in a murder case in 2009 and got bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2013.

A 34-year-old murder accused was shot dead by unidentified persons as they opened fire on his SUV in Panipat city on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Sheokand, a property adviser in Panipat. He was accused in a murder case in 2009 and got bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2013. Whereas his cousin Jasvir, who also received injuries during the firing, was admitted in a private hospital and his condition was said to be stable.

According to the police, the incident took place when the deceased along with his cousin was going to market in the SUV. Three people came in a car and started firing on them in which Rakesh got four bullet injuries, whereas Jasbir received a bullet injury on his leg.

The family members of the deceased suspected the incident took place due to rivalry.

Talking to Hindustan Times Panipat deputy superintendent of police (headquarter) Jagdeep Singh said, “Three-four people fired bullets on the car of the victim and he died”

“Though there is no information about the accused yet, but the investigation is going on and police have registered a case of murder against unidentified persons,”Singh added.
