Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day tour of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, visiting his parliamentary constituency Varanasi and laying the foundation stone for the 340-km Purvanchal Expressway in Azamgarh.
On the first day, the prime minister inaugurated several development projects, with those in Varanasi alone estimated to be worth Rs 937 crore.
PM Modi also addressed public rallies in Varanasi and Azamgarh on Saturday.

PM says 200 projects approved to keep Ganga clean
PM Modi said efforts to clean the Ganga are on. There are 200 projects worth Rs 21,000 crore which have been approved for Ganga cleanliness and to ensure waste from the cities are not dumped in the river.
Kashi emerging on the international tourism map: PM
PM Modi said Kashi is emerging on the international tourism map.
“The foundation of international convention centre, Rudrakash, was laid here today. Two years ago, Japan’s Prime Minister and my dear friend Shinzo Abe gave it as a gift to the people of Kashi,” said PM Modi.
Varanasi moving towards development after voting for BJP: Modi

Is their a place of respect and dignity for Muslim women? They stop the law in Parliament, create ruckus and don’t allow the Parliament to function,” said PM Modi.
PM raises the issue of triple talaq
PM says the intention of the political parties have been exposed by their attitude towards triple talaq.
“On one side, the central government is trying to making the lives of women better, these opposition parties are trying to make the lives of women and Muslim women in particular more difficult,” says PM.

PM Modi alleges some political parties have used the names of Ambedkar and Ram Manhoar Lohia only to do politics. “These parties have not done any welfare work for public or poor, they have only worked for their family and family members,” says PM Modi.
As connectivity increases, development speeds up: PM
“The BJP government in UP has done its best to create an environment suitable for development. The Purvanchal Expressway will feed the hopes and dreams of Uttar Pradesh,” says PM Modi.
The UP farmers’ vegetables, fruits and milk will reach the markets of Delhi faster, he says.
“As connectivity increases, development speeds up,” says PM.
UP’s image is changing: Modi
“Under Yogi Adityanath, the rate of atrocities and corruption in the state has come down as the state government works tirelessly for the farmers, youth and women,” says Modi.
“The image of Uttar Pradesh is changing and the state will tough new heights,” he adds.

PM Modi has laid the foundation stone for the Purvanchal Expressway.
The total cost of the project is over Rs 23,300 crore. The UP Cabinet recently approved a proposal to seek bank loans of about Rs 12,000 crore for the expressway.
Expressway belongs to people, not to SP or Congress: Adityanath
Mocking Samajwadi Party’s claim to laying the foundation stone for the expressway project in 2016, Adityanath says that the expressway does not belong to SP or the Congress but to the people.

Purvanchal expressway to connect eastern UP with Delhi
The 340 km-long, six-lane Poorvanchal Expressway will connect Lucknow with various towns of eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.
This project will also connect Delhi via expressway to several major towns and cities of UP, such as Noida.
Samajwadi Party claims credit for expressway project
The Samajwadi Party has claimed that the Purvanchal expressway project was the brainchild of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who laid a foundation stone for the same stretch in December 2016.
SP workers staged a demonstration at the Azamgarh district collectorate on Friday, saying the party was being denied credit.
