Now, Mehbooba served notice to vacate government quarters in Anantnag

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti has been served a notice to vacate government accommodation allotted to her in Anantnag district, officials familiar with the matter said on Sunday.
The notice comes almost a month after Mufti, who was a chief minister in the esrtwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, was asked to vacate the ‘Fairview’ residence at the upscale Gupkar area of Srinagar. She is yet to vacate the premises. PDP spokesperson Mohit Bhan said onSunday that she will be shifting from the Gupkar residence before November 30.
The latest eviction notice, which was served by an executive magistrate on Saturday, asked Mufti to vacate the the quarter number 7 at the Housing Colony, Khanabal, within 24 hours, said one of the officials mentioned above, asking not to be named.
“...You are asked to evict the quarter under reference within 24 hours failing which action warranted under law shall be taken against you,” the executive magistrate said in the notice while citing the orders of eviction of deputy commissioner, Anantnag. HT has seen a copy of the order.
No reason was cited in the notice behind asking Mufti to vacate. Anantnag is Mufti’s home district where her extended family lives.
According to a second official privy to developments, eviction notices were also served on seven former legislators (MLAs and MLCs), most from the National Conference — Altaf Wani, Abdul Rahim Rather, Abdul Majeed Bhat , Altaf Shah Alias Kalo, Bashir Shah alias Veeri, Choudhary Nizamuddin and Abdul Kabir Pathan.
After she was served the notice regarding her Gupkrar residence on October 26, Mufti had announced that she will be moving to a relative’s house on the outskirts of Srinagar.
The notice regarding her Gupkar area residence, which was signed by the deputy director (estates), had said, “The response filed by you was examined by the department. The grounds raised by you do not justify your retaining the scheduled accommodation, particularly against the backdrop of the fact that the government has communicated in writing its willingness to provide you with an alternate accommodation on security or any other ground(s).”
PDP chief spokesperson Suhail Bukhari had alleged that Mufti had been offered a dilapidated place in Srinagar’s Tulsi Bagh, which she found unsuitable.
The house on Gupkar Road, overlooking Srinagar’s Dal Lake, was allotted to Mehbooba’s father, former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, in 2005.
