Taking a jibe at law minister Kiren Rijuju, the Congress president said mysterious deaths of judges, their urgent transfers before verdicts have not gone unnoticed by the people. "On top of it, the law minister lectures the Executive and Judiciary by saying 'Aapas mein Laden Ka Koi Fayda Nahi hai." The Constitution faces a fundamental crisis today, the Congress president said tracing the root of the crisis to the "ever-expanding" reach of the RSS within "state institutions". "The government has completely surrendered itself and its institutions to the diktats of the RSS, an organisation that pushes hateful propaganda under the garb of social service," Kharge said.

"On the ground, the BJP-RSS cadres' only alternative to constructive dialogue is violence," Kharge said adding that children are given weapon training in public spaces and institutions.

"There is moral surveillance in all public arenas. privacy is being banished. Citizens and civil society have been mercilessly attacked by the topmost echelons of power, for raising their voice," the statement read.

Condemning the misuse of the investigative agencies against opposition leaders, the attack against SC/STs, Mallikarjun Kharge wrote, "We have reached a point where there is growing disharmony not just among people but also between governments and states. Ours is no longer a collaborative federal nation."

"On what should be a proud day for us all, we are witnessing the onset of what Baba Saheb would have referred to as "lawless law", riddled with never-ending infringements on fundamental rights, systematically engineered by the BJP-RSS government since they have been in power," Kharge wrote.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the RSS was opposed to the Constitution of India. "Desperately wanting to show that he respects the Constitution—while he subverts it daily in letter and spirit—the Prime Minister decided to celebrate Nov 26 as Constitution Day. This is sheer hypocrisy," Jairam Ramesh tweeted.

"Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar made one of the greatest speeches of the twentieth century on 25.11.1949 while piloting the final draft of the Constitution. It’s a speech worth reading over and over again. I wish to remind the PM & his drum beaters of just 2 paras from that speech," Jairam Ramesh added.
