Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met German chancellor Olaf Scholz at Schloss Elmau where he will attend the G7 summit. In a video shared by news agency ANI, the prime minister exchanged greetings with his German counterpart.

The prime minister will be attending the G7 summit in which leaders of the world's seven richest economies will discuss key global issues including the Ukraine war, food security and counter-terrorism.

“I will be attending the G-7 Summit today in which we will discuss various important global issues,” the prime minister had tweeted.

The G7 is an inter-governmental political group comprising Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Besides India, Germany has also invited Argentina, Indonesia, Senegal and South Africa as guests for the summit to recognise the democracies of the global south as its partners.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi addressed the Indian diaspora at the Audi Dome stadium in Munich. During his speech, Modi invoked the Emergency which was imposed 47 years ago. “The democracy which is our pride, which is in the DNA of every Indian, an attempt was made to crush that democracy and hold it hostage 47 years ago at this time," he had said.

After his two-day stay in Germany, the prime minister will head to UAE. There, he will pay his condolences on the demise of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former president of the Gulf nation.

"On my way back to India, I will make a brief stopover in Abu Dhabi, UAE for a meeting with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, on June 28 to convey my personal condolences on the passing away of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi," the prime minister had said.
