President honours surgical strike heroes with gallantry medals

Major Rohit Suri, who led the surgical strikes against terror pads in PoK, was awarded Kirti Chakra by President Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony held in Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday. The officer’s citation said he executed the task flawlessly and killed four terrorists in close-quarter combat. Kirti Chakra is second-highest peacetime gallantry.
Naib Subedar Vijay Kumar, who killed three terrorists, received Shaurya Chakra. Shaurya Chakra is the third-highest peacetime gallantry award.
The army had carried out surgical strikes against terror pads in PoK on September 29.
