Students of Kashmir University held a ‘pro-freedom’ protest during a visit of varsity chancellor and state governor NN Vohra on Tuesday.
Vohra visited the university to inaugurate a laboratory block and interact with faculty of Institute of Kashmir Studies (IKS).
Eyewitnesses said as news of Vohra’s visit spread in the campus, many students gathered near IKS to protest. The students were holding a banner of Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU), which has been banned by university authorities. Some also held placards that read ‘We want freedom’ and ‘We stand by resistance leadership’.
A student said the protest was against the “human rights violations and atrocities of Indian forces on Kashmiri people”.
While returning, Vohra’s cavalcade slowed down when passing the protesting students who were shouting ‘Go India go back’.
