The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a subsidiary of the railways, would operate the Tejas Express between Ahmedabad and Mumbai as well.

Officials said Rs 100 compensation would be paid to each passenger in case the train is delayed by over an hour. The amount would be Rs 250 if the delay is more than two hours. The base fare for the train’s economy air conditioned chair car class begins from Rs 1,410.

Officials said the IRCTC is offering the complementary insurance coverage of Rs 25 lakh to each passenger to attract more travellers. The insurance will also include a coverage of Rs 1 lakh against household theft, robbery during the travel.

A railway ministry official said the passengers would be able to file their insurance claim online along with the required documents and the claims would be settled within 2-3 days.

Tejas Express would be the first train the IRCTC would fully run as part of a plan to privatise operations of some trains to increase revenue.
