Robbers shoot Bhiwani bank manager dead, flee with ₹12L

Preliminary probe indicates that the robbers might have been following the duo from Bhiwani.

Two motorcycle-borne robbers gunned down the manager of the Bhiwani Cooperative Bank and injured a security guard before fleeing with ₹12 lakh at Milakpur village in Bhiwani on Monday.

The manager has been identified as Ramphal Singh, 55.

SP Ganga Ram Punia said Ramphal and security guard Dayal Singh had gone to Bhiwani city to bring cash for making payments at their branch.

The duo was walking towards the bank after alighting from a Haryana Roadways bus when unidentified robbers opened fired at them and fled away with the bag full of cash.

A bullet hit Ramphal in his head and died on the spot, while Dayal Singh suffered an injury in the arm. He was admitted to the civil hospital in Hansi by villagers from where he was referred to a private hospital in Hisar. The SP said he is out of danger.

SP Punia said, “The bank’s branch is only 300 metres from the bus stand where the manager and the guard had got down. They had walked around 100 metres when the robbers suddenly attacked them. We have registered a case under sections of murder, attempt to murder and robbery,” he said.

The police said preliminary probe indicated that the robbers might have been following the duo from Bhiwani. The CCTV footage near the area is being scanned to ascertain the identities of the robbers, the SP added.
