PG accommodations and buildings in the surrounding areas will undergo intensive inspections, with violations inviting sealing action. The chief minister said there would be no compromise on the safety of Delhi residents and that no one responsible for negligence would be spared.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on Monday said around 80% of the debris from the Satya Niketan building collapse had been cleared, with only the basement debris remaining as rescue operations continued.

“Approximately 80 per cent of the debris has been cleared, with only the basement debris remaining. Water had accumulated in the basement, and the combination of this with ongoing repair work on the old structure led to the collapse,” Gupta said.

She said 12 people had been rescued, of whom six had died and six were stable and receiving treatment. “So far, 12 people have been rescued, of whom six have died and six are stable. All their parents are being kept informed, and the children are receiving proper medical treatment.”

Gupta said residents of the collapsed building and adjacent unsafe structures had been evacuated. “The standing building, which appears extremely dangerous, will be demolished once the debris is cleared,” she said.

She also announced a structural audit of similar buildings and said the government was drafting a policy requiring owners of old buildings to submit safety reports before operating PGs, nursing homes, schools or other commercial establishments.

“A structural audit will be conducted of all such buildings, and strict action will follow. A policy is also being drafted requiring owners of old buildings to submit structural audit reports and certify their safety before operating PGs, nursing homes, schools or other commercial establishments,” Gupta said.

“Officials found responsible for negligence will also face immediate action,” she added.

Former DU students Sahil Sihag and Pankaj Mahla and local resident Vijay Kain were among those who started clearing rubble. Sihag told HT they removed bricks after breaking through a concrete slab and found three people underneath.

He said there was a possibility that an unidentified labourer could still be trapped under the debris, but this would be confirmed only after the rescue operation progresses.

“There were 13 registered children and seven laborers; four of the laborers were found outside,” Sirsa said.

He also assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible. “The strictest possible action will definitely be taken; cases will even be registered. No one will be spared.” (ANI)

Traffic movement is affected on routes from Safdarjung Hospital towards Dhaula Kuan, RTR and Benito Juarez Marg. Commuters have been advised to use alternate routes and follow directions from traffic personnel.

Police have also asked people not to stop, park or gather near the incident site to keep the route clear for ambulances and rescue vehicles.

Delhi Satya Niketan building collapse LIVE: Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the NDRF was continuing its rescue operation at the Satya Niketan building collapse site, but an unstable adjacent structure was making the debris-clearing operation particularly challenging.

“The NDRF team is continuously engaged in the operation. You can see that this situation involves a high degree of sensitivity because the building visible in the background is also 40–50 years old. It poses a major challenge for the NDRF to ensure no damage occurs to the adjacent building while clearing the debris from below and checking for any further casualties,” Sirsa said.

He said the adjacent building had been evacuated and would be demolished, but it could not be carried out immediately because its condition beneath the accumulated debris was unclear.

Delhi Satya Niketan building collapse LIVE: Several students trapped under the debris called friends after the Satya Niketan building collapsed. Neeraj Bawa, one of those trapped, called his friends and pleaded for help, according to his friend Anmol Yadav.

Yadav said Bawa shared his live location, but police did not allow them to approach the building. Bawa was later rescued and taken to AIIMS, with injuries mainly affecting his lower body.

By midnight, at least 13 people had been rescued and at least five deaths had been confirmed, while teams continued searching for those who could still be trapped.

Satya Niketan building collapse: The JPN Apex Trauma Centre (AIIMS) received 10 patients following the Satya Niketan building collapse in south-west Delhi. Of these, five were brought dead, while another patient who was in critical condition later succumbed to injuries.

Three patients have been admitted and are undergoing treatment. One patient underwent limb surgery, while another sustained minor injuries and was discharged after observation.
