The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to examine a petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged killing of three BJP workers in West Bengal after the local body elections in May.
The petition filed by a BJP leader and advocate Gaurav Bhatia, alleges that family members of the victims were being threatened and police have not registered FIRs.
A two-judge bench of justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan asked the West Bengal government and the CBI to file their response to the petition within four weeks.
Bhatia said the murders in West Bengal were disturbing and asked for a CBI investigation. He also alleged that family members of the three slain BJP workers, Shaktipad Sarkar, Trilochan Mahato and Dulal Kumar, were now being threatened.
Bhatia also demanded that family members of the three men be paid a compensation of Rs 50 lakh.
