Seven killed in Tamil Nadu as car collides with bus

Five were found dead on the accident spot and two others were declared brought dead at the government hospital in Tiruvannamalai

Chennai: Seven men were killed on the spot when a car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus on the Tindivanam-Krishnagiri National Highway in Tiruvannamalai district, police said on Tuesday.

The accident affected the traffic on the route for more than an hour with a team of traffic police personnel regulating the snarls. A case has been filed by the Chengam police in Tiruvannamalai.

Police said that the victims worked in a gum factory near Hosur town in Krishnagiri district. They were returning to Tamil Nadu from Puducherry union territory, where they had gone to for the long weekend.

The state government bus was going towards Karnataka’s Bengaluru. “The driver tried to overtake another vehicle when the car collided with the bus,” a police officer said.

“The accident occurred after 9.20 pm on Monday night,” the officer said.

Other motorists informed the police about the accident.

The SUV was completely mangled. Police officers, fire and rescue personnel and locals retrieved the bodies.A video of the accident surfaced on social media showing policemen and locals trying to rescue the victims.

Five were found dead on the accident spot and two others were declared brought dead at the government hospital in Tiruvannamalai. Four of the victims hailed from Assam. Four other passengers were injured and are undergoing treatment at the government hospital.

Police identified the victims as Kuncha Rai (24), Narayan Sethi (35), Bhinmal Tirth (28), B Dallu (26), and V Nicholas (22) — who were natives of Assam. Puneeth Kumar (23) and G Kamaraj (29) were from in Krishnagiri district.
