Sold as domestic help, minor son returns and kills alcoholic father in Assam
The minor said his father sold him six years ago, when he was eight years old, to a family in Arunachal Pradesh. He was made to work as a domestic help and the suffering there may have also been on his mind when he attacked the victim.
Sold as a domestic help six years ago, a 14-year-old returned home and killed his alcoholic father in Biswanath district of Assam.
Police said the incident took place on Sunday night when the accused attacked his inebriated father with a sharp ‘dao’ (machete).
“The minor was upset with his father beating his mother. In a fit of rage, he hit his father’s neck with the ‘dao’, killing him on the spot,” Pradeep Hazarika, in charge of Helem police station, said on Tuesday.
The accused, who was nabbed by the police, reportedly admitted to his crime and said he was angry with his 40-year-old alcoholic father for quarreling with his mother.
“The minor said his father sold him six years ago, when he was eight years old, to a family in Arunachal Pradesh. He was made to work as a domestic help and the suffering there may have also been on his mind when he attacked the victim,” he said.
The teenager returned home from the neighbouring state last week after several attempts. The family comprises the accused’s father, mother and a younger brother.
“Locals say there used to be quarrels between the father and son over him being sold and the father’s drinking habit. Matters took a turn for the worse on Sunday,” said Hazarika.
The accused minor was presented before a magistrate’s court on Monday and sent to a juvenile home in Jorhat.
This is the second incident of a minor killing his father in Biswanath district in recent months. In November last year, another teenager, upset with beatings from his father, had killed the latter.
