A Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) inspector in Pauri Garhwal district was suspended days after the parents of Ankita Bhandari, who was murdered in 2022, travelled to Delhi to protest against the appointment of Dushyant Gautam as the governor of Sikkim, officials aware of the development said on Sunday.

The suspension order for Sardev Singh, inspector-in-charge, LIU, Pauri, was issued by the Intelligence and Security Headquarters of the Uttarakhand Police in Dehradun on October 16. The action came two days after the parents staged a protest near India Gate in Delhi.
When contacted, Pauri Garhwal SSP Sarvesh Panwar declined to comment.

“Though the order just states the official failed to act on sensitive intelligence in time and doesn’t specify any matter, the suspension stems directly from the family’s unmonitored travel to Delhi and their subsequent protests,” said a senior official.
On Sunday, the family staged a protest outside Sikkim House as Gautam arrived in Gangtok ahead of his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for October 19.
