Vishakhapatam: Students swept by wave while clicking selfies; 1 dead, 1 missing

Four students were clicking selfies while standing on a rock. A big wave lashed the rock and swept two of them into the sea.

A 17-year-old student drowned in the sea while clicking selfies with friends off the Jodugullapalem beach in Vishakhapatnam on Wednesday, police said.

Another student is feared drowned. Five students from Madhurawada area in Vishakhapatnam had gone to the beach as their exams had recently concluded, a senior police official from Arilova police station.

Four of them, K Amrutha (17), DM Kalyan (18), Anil and Rajesh were clicking selfies while standing on a rock Wednesday morning. A big wave lashed the rock and swept Amrutha and Kalyan into the sea, he added.

The deceased, Amrutha, was studying at a junior college here. His body was found while a search operation is underway to locate Kalyan, the official said, adding a case has been registered.
