This is, however, not the first time that Roy has uploaded such videos with derogatory comments on the video sharing and social media platform. He has around 3,23,000 subscribers.

A senior officer of the city police’s detective department said that they had received multiple complaints against Roy after he posted a video criticising Mamata Banerjee on Sunday.

“TMC MP Santanu Sen had earlier filed a complaint with the police commissioner, while I filed a complaint against Roy at Chitpur police station. He had abused Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee and other TMC leaders including state minister Firhad Hakim and MLA Madan Mitra,” said Riju Dutta, a TMC spokesperson.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, however, took a jibe at the police questioning the timing of the arrest.

“When Roy had abused Rabindranath Tagore and other personalities, the police didn’t care to arrest him. But when he made derogatory statements against the chief minister, a combing operation was launched and he was arrested from Goa,” said Anupam Hazra, BJP national secretary and former MP.

“He should have been arrested much earlier. He uses such derogatory words to distort even Rabindra Sangeet and uses slang to malign someone he doesn’t like on social media. But no-one took any steps. I hope no one will question why he was arrested,” said Kunal Ghosh, TMC spokesperson.
