11 dead, nine bodies recovered from a gorge

Nine bodies, including those of three women and two children were recovered on Tuesday from a gorge after a vehicle rolled down into it on the Srinagar-Leh national highway, official sources said.

The ill-fated Tata Sumo was on its way from Zojilla pass to Srinagar last evening when it met with the accident after the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve, they said.

At least 11 persons have died in the accident and eight Gujarati tourists were among the dead.

Bodies of two minors were recovered from the spot on Sunday, while a seven-year-old boy was rescued alive.
