The order to suspend seven teachers from Garhwal region and five teachers from Kumaon region was issued on Monday after they were found absent during a surprise check of the schools recently, they added.

A series of surprise checks have been carried out in government schools here in the past two months on the directive of education secretary Rakesh Kumar.

The officials said the exercise is aimed at improving the standard of education in these schools.
