POLIO CORRECTIVE surgery was performed on at least 130 patients on the second day of the three-day ?Mega Polio Corrective Surgery? camp at Tej Bahadur Sapru (Beli) Hospital on Friday.

POLIO CORRECTIVE surgery was performed on at least 130 patients on the second day of the three-day ‘Mega Polio Corrective Surgery’ camp at Tej Bahadur Sapru (Beli) Hospital on Friday.
The surgery were performed in the newly inaugurated operation theatre. About 900 children and youths of Gangapaar and city side were also registered in the camp on the second day. The 16-member doctors’ team will later examine them and identify children for the corrective surgery. The team has planned to conduct about 200 to 230 surgeries. Due to the large number of children getting registered in the camp, the team is also planning to conduct the second phase of the polio corrective surgery camp in April last or the first week of May.
Dr Arun Jain from Pt Din Dayal Upadhayay Viklang Jan Sansthan, Delhi said once the surgeries were over there wouldbe atleast four medical follow-ups of the patients. Taking to Hindustantimes, Dr Jain said the team would visit the city every 15 days to conduct examinations. After 60 days, the bandage and plaster would be removed and the patients would be referred for physiotherapy and other rehabilitation procedure.
“The team will again visit the city after five months to get the feed-back and assess the work done in the camp,” he added.
Nodal officer and district handicap welfare officer VB Rawat said about 25 new patients were also admitted to the hospital on Friday. The surgery of these patients will be performed on Saturday.
