2 killed, several hurt in mishap

Tempo hit by speeding truck

TWO PERSONS were killed and about a dozen injured when a speeding truck hit a stationary tempo at bypass road under the Naubasta police station on Saturday.

The severity of the accident could be gauged from the fact that two persons died on the spot and the tempo was dragged for about 12 feet. Injured were rushed to the UHM Hospital and other private hospitals in the city.

At 11.45 am, a tempo laden with passengers stopped near Aara Machine, Gopal Nagar to take passengers when a truck coming from opposite direction rammed into it.

In the accident, Pappu Rathore (40) of Devki Nagar and tempo driver Ram Gopal Mishra (45) of Pooranpur village died on the spot.

The injured have been identified as Saroj Shukla, Ramesh Lambu, Ram Singh Kushwaha, Anshu, Parwati Rathore, Suman Rathore, Snehlata, Mansika (2), Rameshwari Rathore (30), Ruchi Rathore, Deepak (34) and two kids.

One seriously injured passenger Snehlata has been referred to LLR Hospital from UHM Hospital as her condition deteriorated. In the UHM Hospital, four patients were admitted in the NB I ward of the emergency.

The rest of the passengers were discharged after first-aid.

Meanwhile, the Naubasta police detained the truck driver identified as Umakant and seized the truck.
