20 copycats caught in the act

Examination controller Dr Ratnakar Shukla informed that 20 copycats were held in Allahabad during the ongoing examinations of the Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) on Monday. He informed that total 67 students across the State have been caught till date using unfair means in the examinations.

Refresher course
EFFICIENCY and good governance should be made into law to solve the problems of the country’s economy, said Prof VK Anand in his inaugural lecture at the 8th refresher course in economics at the Department of Economics, Allahabad University (AU). The course is sponsored by the UGC and Academic Staff College (ASC), AU.

Former head of Economics Department and Fellow, Institute of Advance Studies, Shimla, Prof Anand also focused on the emerging issue of “Concealed Poverty” caused due to increasing marginalisation of the poor.

Head of Economics Department Prof PN Mehrotra and Prof Pratima Gaur, ASC director, welcomed the participants from the universities and colleges from across the country. Prof Prahalad Kumar expressed the vote of thanks.

Short play contest
A HINDI short play competition will be organised by Samyantar in memory of eminent litterateur late Lakshmikant Verma. The event will be held from February 15 to 18 in which altogether eight theatre groups will participate.

On the first day, the play ‘Khela Polumpur’ will be staged which has been directed by Rakesh Verma and written by Manimadhukar. The chief guest on the occasion will be senior litterateur and poet Kailash Gautam.

The plays to be staged on February 16 and 17 are ‘Maro Maro Pagal Hai’ by Ma Ambey Natya Samiti, Allahabad, ‘Kafan’ by Kala Kendra, Varanasi, ‘Jebkatrey’ by Krishna Kala Kendra, Varanasi, ‘Pressure’ by Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Varanasi, ‘Bahurupiya’ by Abhimanch, Allahabad, ‘Admi ka Bojha’ by Yuva Sangathan, Gorakhpur, ‘Sahib Kaha Hai’ by Rang Mandal, Gorakhpur and ‘Company Ustad Ki’ by Angaar, Gorakhpur.

The concluding day’s function and prize distribution will take place on February 18. Theatre personalities, senior litterateurs, social activists and those associated with cultural activities will be present on the occasion.
