Senior Superintendent of Police AK Singh said that 22 people were arrested yesterday outside the Reserve Bank of India. They belong to a gang which is engaged in making steel blades from the coins, he said.

Meanwhile, RBI has started to keep a tab on the people who takes coins in huge quantity from its counters and urged the police to take punitive action against the arrested people.

Destroying and misusing coins or currencies come under the category of anti-national act, said J B Bhoria, regional director, RBI.

He demanded the arrested be prosecuted under the National Security Act. The bank is planning to install CCTVs near coin-discharging counters, he added.
