Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Court on Wednesday sent three policemen named in the Ranbeer encounter case into 14 days of judicial remand, report HT Correspondent & Anupam Trivedi.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Court on Wednesday sent three policemen named in the Ranbeer encounter case into 14 days of judicial remand.
The cops were arrested in Nainital on Tuesday where they had gone to seek anticipatory bail from Uttarakhand High Court against their probable arresting. Crime Branch from CBI Lucknow held three cops – GD Bhatt, the then incharge of Araghar police check post, constable Ajit, Santosh Jaiswal, the then inspector at Dalanwala police station.
CBI produced these cops at CBI court in capital on Wednesday. Infact these were the first arresting after the agency was asked to investigate Ranbeer encounter case in July this year. It is learnt Ranbeer was killed three moths back in an alleged fake encounter by local police in Dehradun.
The killing of Ranbeer snowballed into a major controversy after family members asserted that police had ‘murdered’ former. Succumbing to pressure state government handover the case to CBCID. But later CBI was requested to probe the allegations as BJP National President Rajnath Singh intervened since the slain youth belonged to his constituency in Ghaziabad.
CBI had named 14 policemen in its charge sheet including two officials stationed in Dehradun – Ajay Singh and GC Tamta for allegedly threatening Ranbeer’s father to go soft on case.
According to sources CBI could crack whip on few more cops in the coming days. Meanwhile the senior police officials sealed their lips as soon investigating agency held cops.
