Sources said commandos, attached to Thoubal police station, raided Thoubal Khunou area, about 25 Kms from Imphal last evening, following reports that some militants were hiding in the area.
As they stepped up search operation, militants opened fire at them, sources said, adding that two of them were killed in the ensuing encounter.
One pistol and a grenade were recovered from the spot, sources said.
After an hour, militant fired at the police personnel combing the area, sources said.
In the encounter that followed, one militant was killed. Over 310 persons, including civilians, were so far killed in militancy-related incidents in Manipur this year.
