It was around 8.30 on Sunday morning when Civil Lines was rocked by the murder of a security guard Ram Avtar Shukla 36. He was gunned down by a police sub-inspector in the bungalow of late KB Garg, a senior lawyer and prominent resident of the city. Garg's daughter- in-law, Ravibala lives in the bungalow along with her daughter, son and husband who is reportedly unwell since long.

The bungalow in under litigation following the claim of one Imtiaz over its ownership right. Sub-inspector Shatrughan Singh, the alleged killer, said to have forcibly occupied a portion of this bungalow about ten months ago with the help of Imtiaz.

This morning the killer sub-inspector was trying to take illegal electricity connection in his portion with the help of a private electrician when Garg's daughter-in-law Ravibala objected. As a result the sub-inspector and his wife became furious and threatened to assault her.

Seeing their body language Ravibala's private security guard tried to intervene but he was assaulted by the sub-inspector, his wife and son. Managing to wriggle out of the situation the guard ran to get hold of his 'danda', said Ravibala. But at the same time the sub-inspector managed to get his rifle and shot the guard dead on the spot.

Ravibala and her daughter Radhika, who were on the scene, nearly escaped death after the sub-inspector fired from his rifle in a fit of rage. After this, the sub-inspector handed over his rifle to his wife and ran out on the road and sped away with Imtiaz who was waiting in a vehicle, alleged Radhika.

Imtiaz's son Tariq was also in the vehicle, she alleged.

The sub-inspector's son also fled from the scene on his mobike following the murder, she told the police. Meanwhile, at Gaddopur near Phaphamau the double murder was the outcome of a dispute relating to money between two parties. Both the parties were involved in an exchange of fire which lasted for more than half an hour.

The attackers on one side numbering more than two dozen had come in two vehicles and were heavily armed with rifles and other weapons. Later, police managed to arrest five of them and also seized their rifles. The double murder has sent shock waves in the area.

Sources said, one Sabi Ahmad used to drive the truck of one Mukhtar. Sometime ago Sabi sold away some goods with which the truck was loaded and disappeared after parking the vehicle. Mukhtar made several attempts to get his money back from Sabi but failed. It was for the sake of this money that Mukhtar and his armed men fired at Sabi. Though Sabi and his men returned the fire however, the bullet hit one Ramji.

Meanwhile Sabi's father Kalloo dumped the injured Ramji in a vehicle and rushed to a hospital in the city. Meanwhile, police arrived at the scene and managed to arrest five of the attackers.

However, other associates of Mukhtar intercepted Kalloo's vehicle and shot at Kalloo. By this time Ramji breathed his last. Kalloo was rushed to a hospital where he too could not survive.
