3 securitymen killed in Gadchiroli

Two security personnel and a female rebel were killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists at Makadchuha village,some 50 km from eastern Maharastra’s Gadchiroli district bordering Chhattisgarh.

Two security personnel and a female rebel were killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists at Makadchuha village,some 50 km from eastern Maharastra’s Gadchiroli district bordering Chhattisgarh.

Police said Maoists opened fire when a team comprising members of the CRPF’s elite Cobra battalion and the police’s C-60 squad entered the village at 9:30am on Saturday.

Gadchiroli district superintendent of police (SP) Viresh Prabhu said about 50 Maoists attacked the joint anti-Maoist team suddenly. Three security personnel died on the spot and two others were injured. The injured were being shifted to a private hospital in Nagpur.

A 22-year-old woman rebel was killed in the encounter. Unconfirmed reports said two other Maoists were also killed. Prabhu also said, more Maoists could have been killed or injured but there was no confirmation. The SP added the operation continued till 7 pm. The village has been cordoned off, he added.
