5.3-magnitude quake hits Andaman and Nicobar islands, no tsunami alert

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale hit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Monday night but there were no immediate reports of loss of life or property.

No tsunami alert has been issued following the medium-intensity quake whose epicentre was Andaman Islands.

The quake struck at 9:33pm at a depth of 10 km, according to the National Centre for Seismology.

Earlier, a quake measuring 3 on the Richter Scale had jolted Nagaon in Assam at 11.42am at a depth of 2.4 km.
