5 pilgrims killed in road accident in Orissa

Five pilgrims were killed and six others injured on Monday when a jeep in which they were travelling hit a roadside tree at Katada, about 30 km from Orissa, police said.

The mishap occurred in the wee hours on NH-42 when 11 pilgrims from Orissa's Balangir district were on their way to the holy town of Puri, Circle Inspector of Police Prasant Mohanty said.

Those killed were the driver of the vehicle, two children and as many women.

The injured were being treated at the government hospital in Orissa and their condition was stated to be critical.
