5 states to go to polls in April-May

Assembly polls in Kerala, W Bengal, TN, Assam and Pondicherry will take place between April 3 and May 8.

Assembly elections in Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Pondicherry will take place between April 3 and May 8, the Election Commission announced on Wednesday.

While Tamil Nadu will see one-day polling, all other states will witness staggered balloting.

The poll in West Bengal will be spread over five days.

The votes in all five states will be counted on May 11, Chief Election Commissioner BB Tandon told reporters in New Delhi.

Assam will have elections on April 3 and 10, West Bengal on April 17, 22 and 27 and May 3 and 8, Kerala on April 22 and 29 and May 3, Tamil Nadu on May 8 and Pondicherry on May 3 and 8.
