Police said the incident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday in Egathur village on the IT corridor.

The victim's father, Mohan Rao hailing from Andhra Pradesh, had immediately taken her to a private hospital which refused to admit the child on the plea that she was a minor and it was a police case. The girl was later admitted to the Government Institute of Child Health here, the police said.

Kelambakkam Police, investigating the case, said Egathur village has a large number of construction workers from Andhra Pradesh. "We are interrogating all close relatives of the child. Around 3,000 workers from Andhra Pradesh are believed to be working at this site," a police official said.
