Hundreds of women, belonging to one community, reportedly gheraoed the Kotwali police station to protest against large-scale rigging and booth capturing at Majidia Islamia polling centre in the city west. They alleged that a candidate contesting corporator’s post was involved in booth capturing.
Led by UDF candidate for the post of corporator Ubed Ansari, the protestors were shouting slogans against the police for their apathetic attitude to bogus voting.
The agitators included several women who were protesting against lathicharge on a Congress candidate Zakia Begum who sustained injuries at Yadgare Hussain Inter College. The woman had to be admitted to the SRN Hospital. A person reportedly resorted to firing near Sewa Samiti Inter College in Rambagh. Cops allegedly beat up a person with rifle’s butt there.
A brawl between two groups sparked chaos in ward 21 in Jhusi area. The incident reportedly took place after alleged attempt made by some persons to cast bogus votes. Later, they were chased away by the locals.
There were reports of stone throwing in Phaphamau area on the outskirts of the city. A candidate contesting the corporator’s post allegedly assaulted another candidate in Akbarpur. Two other corporator candidates Dilip Chaurasia (BJP) and Rajesh Gupta (Samajwadi Party) assaulted each other after an altercation.
In Colonelganj police station, there were reports of brickbatting between two groups. After this, cops chased shooed away the troublemakers. Police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the mob.
At Gudia ka Talab in Khuldabad area, some residents accused SP men of forcibly lifting the veils of Muslim women to ensure that they had not come for the second time. There were reports of stone throwing in the same locality.
In the morning, MP Ateeq Ahmad’s men allegedly clashed with one Imtiaz alias Mama. The husband of an SP corporator candidate was allegedly assaulted by a BJP candidate at Talab Naval Rai.
Babli Sahu, a woman corporator candidate, broke her hand after an independent candidate Kunwar Jitesh Srivastava allegedly assaulted her.
A fight broke out between an independent candidate Shiv Sewak Singh and BJP’s Kunj Behari Misra over bogus voting. There were reports of bogus voting at Nagar Nigam Primary Pathshala under Abubakarpur police station. SP workers allegedly chased away some genuine voters and resorted to bogus voting which caused much resentment in the area.
