The earthquake, whose epicentre was the Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan, struck at 3:58 pm, sending ripples across north India.

Reports of heavy tremor also poured in from Chamba, Shimla, Kullu and Mandi.

Vipin Jamwal, a Dharamshala resident, said people rushed out of their houses as tremor was quite strong.

“I felt my house swaying like a swing,” he said.

However, no loss of property or life was reported from any part of the state.
