Poonam, the victims' mother, has alleged that her neighbour Ramesh killed her daughter and then kidnapped her son to "take revenge" from her family. Ramesh has been on the run since the incident.

Police said Kajal was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Friday while her younger brother Vikas is missing.

"Dinesh and his wife Poonam left for work on Friday, leaving their six children at home.

In the evening they got a call that their daughter is hanging from the ceiling fan without any clothes on the body. When they reached home, they found even their son Vikas was missing," said a senior police officer. The other four children were playing outside when the incident took place, the officer said.

Police said that all the three — Dinesh, Poonam and Ramesh — were working at a private company in Sector 6.

"Ramesh is alcoholic and used to beat his wife. She used to tell me about her problems. Recently she left her house with her child. Ramesh hold us responsible for that and threatened to take revenge. This is what he has done to us," said Poonam.

Sector 20 police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to arrest the accused. "We have formed two teams to nab Ramesh. His mobile phone has been kept on surveillance. We have also sent a team to ISBT in Delhi and Ghaziabad railway station in search of him," said Yogesh Singh, superintendent of police (city).

Police are not sure if the girl was molested or raped before killing. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
