60 houses, shops gutted in fire

Four persons suffer burns and over 60 houses and shops are gutted in a devastating fire in the busy Hatigaon Chariali area on Saturday, police said.

The fire, caused by explosion of five LPG cylinders at a shop in the congested area near the Assam secretariat and state assembly, spread quickly and engulfed several shops and houses.

Seven vehicles parked on the street also caught fire while four persons were injured when they were trying to run away from the area.

Ten fire tenders took nearly two hours to control the fire.

The extent of the damages is yet to ascertained.
