A city court would frame charges against an exporter in a fraud case after 40 years of the offence. The court has fixed April 19 as the date for fixing of charges against Kuldeep Singh, an accused in an economic offence case under FERA for a fraud that he allegedly committed in 1961.

“Such delays shake the confidence of the public in the judicial system. Sufficient delay has already been caused in the trial of the case and it is the accused who is responsible for causing the delay to a large extent”, said Kamini Lau, Additional Cheif Metropolitan Magistrate.

Singh was booked under Section 53(2) of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act in 1983, Twenty years after the incident, Singh, proprietor of Around the World Exporters, was allegedly carrying out various illegal activities in violation of the FERA Act.

He has also been accused of possessing many incriminating documents showing various illegal activities like running institutions under his name in foreign countries. He also advertised in the foreign press about being capable of bestowing supernatural power on persons who wear Talismans charms, rings etc.
