The city police swung into action this year to curb the spiralling number of accidents involving the heavy vehicles. "In order to bring down the increasing number of accidents caused by trucks, the police have restricted the movement of buses and trucks within the city. According to a senior traffic police official, the haphazard movement of heavy vehicles put commuters’ life in danger apart from hampering movement of traffic. The police have begun imposing fines for violating traffic rules", said a senior traffic police official.

Recently in the month of April this year, police have also changed the timing of entry and exit of heavy vehicles. “The Maruti container can enter the city from 9:30pm to 7am, when the movement of private vehicles is very less,” a traffic police official said. Apart from that, only 30 containers and heavy trucks are allowed to enter the city so that traffic doesn’t get disturbed.
