At least seven persons were killed and more than two dozen injured when a metador vehicle they were traveling on skidded and crashed into an electric pole, Wednesday morning, near Bemetra about 60 km from the state capital Raipur.

Incidentally all the deceased were relatives and returning to Raipur after attending a marriage ceremony at village Khari near Bemetra. The ill-fated vehicle was loaded with nearly thirty-five people.

The additional superintendent of police (rural) Prashant Thakur told Hindustan Times that all the injured have been rushed to the Ambedkar Medical hospital at Raipur.

“It seems the reckless driving of a driver, who is absconding, led to the accident that killed seven people on the spot”, said Thakur. The conditions of eight are stated to be critical. Those killed were the residents of Raipur.
