The inputs warn that five more terrorists would be joining them to carry out the attack in the Capital where the main celebrations are held and President APJ Abdul Kalam takes salute of the parade in the presence of the top brass of political and military leadership.

The information, received from intelligence agencies, has been passed on to Delhi Police and other security agencies, police sources informed in Thursday.

According to the information, the eight terrorists were armed with a large quantity of sophisticated weapons and could be hiding somewhere in South Delhi, they said.

The terrorists are believed to have planned to carry out a strike in the walled city, possibly in the proximity of the Red Fort around the Republic Day, the sources said.

Five more terrorists are expected to join them in carrying out the attack, they said.

As per practice, the parade starts from Vijay Chowk near Rashtrapati Bhawan and culminates at Red Fort.

Alarmed by the information, senior officers of Delhi Police held a series of meetings to review preparedness for the Republic Day. Discussions were also held with officers of Intelligence Bureau (IB).
