92 securitymen booked for abstaining from poll duty

Cases have been registered against 92 security personnel, including Homeguards and watchmen, for abstaining from election duty in Kanshiram Nagar district, around 300 kms from Lucknow, police said on Saturday.

Cases have been registered against 92 security personnel, including Homeguards and watchmen, for abstaining from election duty in Kanshiram Nagar district, around 300 kms from Lucknow, police said on Saturday.

On the basis of complaint lodged by Arun Kumar Gautam, Incharge, election cell of Kanshiram Nagar, cases under relevant sections have been filed against 55 policemen belonging to Bijnore and Kanshiram Nagar for abstaining from election duty on May 6, they said.

Cases have also been registered against 37 other security staff, including Homeguards and Chowkidars (watchman) of Rampur, Bijnore, Gonda, Kheri and Kanshiram Nagar districts, for laxity in election duty during the fourth phase of Lok Sabha polls, they added.
