Ravi Kapoor’s revelation may shock many, but the actor-director says he was prepared for controversies from the start.

The movie, World Cupp 2011 released on Friday, but Kapoor says that the days leading to the release were pretty tense since the film explores the nexus between the underworld, cricket, film industry, police and politics.

“I opened an account with a bookie, played with Rs 1.5 crore before I was invited to one of his parties. It was like a dance bar, girls were dancing and everyone was showering notes on them,” says Kapoor. To his surprise, however, it wasn’t the bookies who raised a protest against the film, but Raj Thakrey’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) which was aggrieved because he named the political party in his movie as MNMS.

MNS party heads insisted on seeing the film to ensure that the party wasn’t shown in a negative light.

Thereafter, Kapoor also received threats from gangster Ravi Poojari who was allegedly named in the shooting incident at filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s office.

Reason: the film has a scene featuring a character, Padma Poojari, who is shown being involved in betting.

Fearing threats to his life, Kapoor has now been given security by the cops. He has also hired additional bodyguards and got himself a licenced gun.
